FIRST COAST YMCA ANNOUNCES NEW BRANCH IN DURBIN PARK NAMED IN HONOR OF THE PEYTON FAMILY

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – October 28, 2021 – Today, the First Coast YMCA announced its newest branch in Durbin Park at Flagler Health+ health and wellness campus will be named in honor of the Peyton Family.

Expected to open late 2023, the Peyton Family YMCA will represent both entities’ unwavering commitment to building stronger and healthier communities across the First Coast.

For more than 60 years, GATE Petroleum Company founder Herbert H. Peyton and his family have proudly served the Jacksonville community. With a focus on supporting a family culture, GATE and The GATE Foundation work to support the neighbors and neighborhoods in which they operate and serve.

“It is an honor to partner with the YMCA at its new branch in Durbin Park,” said John Peyton, president of GATE Petroleum Company. “Our charitable focus is to nurture and protect the well-being of families and the community, which perfectly aligns with the work of the Y. We look forward to the positive impacts this branch will have in St. Johns County and the surrounding area.”

Joining three existing branches in St. Johns County, the Peyton Family YMCA will be one of the Y’s largest branches on the First Coast. While plans are still being finalized, the facility is expected to be about 50,000 square feet and will feature an Airnasium, outdoor fitness amenities, indoor and outdoor aquatics, a Teen Center and KidZone, group exercise studios and a wellness center with strength and cardio equipment.

“We are excited to establish an enduring legacy for the Peyton family through the Ys presence and service in Durbin Park,” said Eric K. Mann, President and CEO of the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. “This gift marks the start of our fundraising effort for this new Y. We need the community’s support to ensure we make good on the promise of building a stronger and healthier St. Johns County.”

The Y has launched a $7 million capital fundraising campaign for the new Y. The campaign is co-chaired by Anthony Jabbour and Darnell Smith. Other members of the fundraising committee include David Alban, Doug Baer, Mark Bailey, Shelly Boynton, Peggy Bryan, John Carey, Marty Fiorentino, Drew Frick, Rusty Newton and Mike Santarone.
