We understand the unique challenges for military families, and our organizations are committed to working together through the Healthy Military Family Initiative to provide essential programs and services to allow military families to thrive.

Sponsored by Humana Military, Healthy Military Families Initiative is a partnership with the American Heart Association, USO of Greater Jacksonville, VyStar Credit and the YMCA.

Healthy for Life® is a community-based nutrition and well-being program created by Aramark and the American Heart Association (AHA) that focuses on empowering people to make healthier food and lifestyle choices. The program incorporates interactive components such as cooking demonstrations through a 4-session program. These sessions are created to build food literacy to improve your health and the health of your family.

The First Coast YMCA strives to support the fitness goals of current Service Members and their families through our VIRTUAL wellness program Operation Strong & Ready (OSR). OSR is the Y’s new wellness program specially designed for service members and their families. In partnership with the Healthy Military Families Initiative, OSR will help service members with their overall wellness goals, be prepared to operate at peak performance and pass their branch’s fitness test.

In response to COVID-19, we will be delivering the program in a safe and supportive, virtual environment. This will also allow us to increase access from our local service area to service members across the state of Florida and beyond.

Program Information

OSR registration is currently open and will run through February 2022. OSR participants will be provided a complimentary Virtual Y Membership sponsored by Humana Military.

Once enrolled you will have the opportunity to join live training sessions twice a week or browse the library of classes and participate in any previously recorded class all in the comfort of your own home. In addition to all OSR classes you will also have access to the First Coast Virtual Y Library that is home to 100’s of virtual offerings. All OSR training sessions are led by certified First Coast YMCA wellness coaches and personal trainers.

At hundreds of locations worldwide, we are united in our commitment to connect our service members and their families through countless acts of caring, comfort and support. We have programs for our Active-Military Service Members and their dependents such as our No Dough Dinners/Lunch 2 Go, Care Packages, Healthy Military Families Initiative, and Educational classes. VyStar’s Money Makeover, along with the help of your own VyStar Money Coach, is a unique money management exercise to help drive down debt, increase savings and improve your financial outlook. This program will provide monthly online financial education courses focused on budgeting, saving, achieving good credit scores and loans. Participants will be required to complete three sessions (one session a month for three months).  VyStar is committed to ensuring service members receive offerings tailored to their needs, and this is one more way they will be able to enhance their financial knowledge.

To activate your participation in any of the individual partner programs, you must first create a YMCA account.

STEP 1 – Create your account.

  1. Click here to create your account through Daxko Engage.
  2. Select Barco-Newton Family YMCA from the drop-down list of locations. Click “Next.”
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Non-Member” from the list. Click “Next.”
  4. Input your information and setup your username and password.
