CPR.O2.First Aid

Course Number – SD102FFC
Price – CPR-Pro/AED, O2, First Aid certifications FEE: $30 current staff / $75 others.

This blended class combines online course learning with a classroom skills practice session and evaluation. For certification and card, a student will first complete the online course, and then participate in a practice session with a certified instructor. Blended training offers an easier process; students can train and prepare at times that are convenient for them. The online portion should last approximately 4 hours, while the classroom time will be completed within 4.5 hours. Seven days before the class, the participant will receive an email containing one link for CPR-Pro/AED, O2 & 1st Aid training. After completing each online training portion of the class, a student MUST print out a certificate recognizing completion to provide to the instructor. This is just an acknowledgement that the online class portion was completed, this does not certify them.

The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast has partnered with Communities in Schools, Children’s Safe Passage, Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Monique Burr Foundation for Children and WJCT to form the Northeast Florida Stewards of Children Coalition. The coalition was formed to decrease childhood sexual abuse in Northeast Florida by building a preventative movement that overwhelms the size of the problem, empowering an unprecedented number of people with the skills and knowledge to protect children through the Darkness to Light (D2L) Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training.

Lifeguard Crossover – Community

This course provides training to individuals who hold current lifeguard certifications from other approved lifeguard training agencies. This is a modified course that acknowledges current lifeguard experience and provides participants with the education to become a certified YMCA Lifeguard. In addition, participants will also renew their certifications in CPR Pro, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.

Approved lifeguard training agencies are American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Canadian Red Cross, International Lifeguard Training Program Ellis & Associates, Lifesaving Society Canada, National Aquatic Safety Company (NASCO) and Starfish Aquatics Institute.

Y Lifeguard Certification – Community

This course is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard and professional rescuer. Participants will be certified in CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration. The course presents information on the skills and knowledge lifeguards need in pool, lake, river, surf and waterpark environments. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to lifeguard by anticipating and preventing problems before they occur and by taking action to help those in danger when necessary. The course also covers safety skills, accident prevention, scanning, guarding techniques, emergency systems, rescue skills, first aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management, open water dangers, legal responsibilities, pool management and information on how to get a job as a lifeguard.

Y Swim Lesson Instructor – Community

This course provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills to teach YMCA swim lessons to parent-child pairs, preschoolers, youth and adults. It includes both land and pool sessions, lesson planning, teaching methodology, class organization, class components and skills for the YMCA progressive program. The course also covers the Y’s expectations for instructors and outlines their responsibilities for teaching YMCA Aquatics classes that are student centered, values oriented and safe and effective in teaching aquatic skills.

Included in the course is the YMCA Instructor Safety Assistant Module. YMCA Instructor Safety Assistant (YISA), which will be taught by YSL trainers and will replace the YASA prerequisite. The YISA course focuses on how an instructor can assist and help a lifeguard in the event of an emergency in the pool area. It will teach lifeguards who are also swim instructors what role to play during an emergency while they are teaching rather than guarding. YISA is the fifth module within the YSL instructor course and helps reinforce aquatic safety, streamline the training system and decrease the required training hours.
