First Coast YMCA Invites Older Adults to Get Active, Drop their Drawers and Go to Camp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – May 15, 2015 – The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast invites community members, 55 years of age and better, to kick off their summer with the Y. All year long, the Y offers professional, certified staff and state-of-the-art fitness programs designed specifically for active older adults. This month there are a several of opportunities including Senior Health and Fitness Day, Drop Your Drawers underwear drive and AOA Goes to Camp.

National Senior Health and Fitness Day: Wednesday, May 27

Each local YMCA will host an open house Wednesday, May 27 to celebrate an active older lifestyle. Guests are encouraged to bring a friend and participate in upbeat programs, presentations, exercise classes, health assessments, vendors and more.

Drop Your Drawers Underwear Drive: Wednesday, May 27

First Coast YMCA has partnered with Dignity U Wear to collect undergarments for those in need Wednesday, May 27. As a part of Senior Health and Fitness Day, there will be collection boxes at 11 Y locations with the hope of collecting 210,000 units of undergarments including socks, bras and underwear.

AOA Goes to Camp: Friday, May 29 – May 31

Hosted at Camp Immokalee in Keystone Heights, this three-day camp for active older adults will offer activities from fishing to zip lining. Registration is now open, and the price is $225 for Y members and $245 for non-members.
