Treadmill Tuesday

MORE THAN 1,750 FIRST COAST RESIDENTS COMPLETE NEARLY 4,000 MILES IN WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

#TreadmillTuesday brings community members together to make history and take steps toward building a healthier First Coast

JACKSONVILLE, FL- January 20, 2015 – Today, nearly 2,000 community members participated in #TreadmillTuesday, a Guinness World Record attempt to achieve the greatest distance on a treadmill by a mixed team in 12 hours. Together, 1,756 participants walked, jogged or ran at least 3,784.94 miles. The event is one of several world record challenges that are a part of #My30, a First Coast YMCA campaign to inspire people to become more physically active and encourage adults to achieve 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week.

Participants were able to join via social media or by visiting one of 13 Y facilities across the First Coast. Online participants joined by posting a picture of their dashboard summary, tagging @FirstCoastYMCA and using #My30 and #TreadmillTuesday. The total mileage will be submitted to Guinness World Record officials for review. The current world record is 106 miles.

“With this remarkable showing, we were able to achieve results that will shatter the current record while helping more residents get their 30 minutes of physical activity,” said Eric Mann, president and CEO of YMCA of Florida’s First Coast. “The success of #TreadmillTuesday is a promising launch to the #My30 campaign and community-wide efforts to build a healthier First Coast.”

At each branch, the first 30 #TreadmillTuesday participants received a #My30 t-shirt and all participants were entered into a chance drawing to win a FREE Fitbit. Additionally, each branch awarded a one-month FREE YMCA membership to the participant who achieved the greatest distance in the 30-minute treadmill workout. Both social media and branch participants who tagged @FirstCoastYMCA and used #My30 and #TreadmillTuesday were entered to win a free six-month YMCA membership.

The total number of participants and distance for each branch is detailed below along with winners of free one-month Y memberships and Fitbit activity trackers. Winning participants may pick-up their prize next week at the Y branch where they participated in the world record attempt. A staff member will call the winner to coordinate prize pick-up.
