JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – October 4, 2022 –The First Coast YMCA is pleased to announce its newly elected Metropolitan Board of Directors Chair, Darnell Smith, and two new members: Dr. Cheikh Mboup and Keith Tickell. Smith, Mboup and Tickell officially began their new roles on October 1st.
“Having a passionate and cause-driven board is essential for the Y’s continued service to local families, individuals and seniors,” said Eric Mann, President and CEO of the First Coast YMCA. “We are grateful for the leadership of our volunteers, which is critical to helping us accomplish our purpose of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”
A board member since 2012, Darnell Smith will serve as the Y’s Board Chair for the 2022-2023 year. Smith is the market president for Florida Blue’s North Florida region and is a recognized leader for his engagements in various community organizations. He replaces Brooks Rehabilitation President and CEO Doug Baer, who served as Board Chair for the past two years and has been on the board since 2008.
Dr. Cheikh Mboup, a newly elected member, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Edible Brands. Mboup has been honored as a recipient of Jacksonville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award and received his MBA from Jacksonville University.
Keith Tickell is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Baptist Health. Tickell’s diverse experience includes CFO roles at four successful businesses and membership on the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Metropolitan Board officers for the 2022-2023 year also include Gary Norcross, Vice Chair; Pam Smith, Treasurer; and Eric Mann, Secretary.
The Board also recognizes the outstanding service of two outgoing members, Debbie Buckland and Terri Derkum. Buckland and Derkum served on the Board since September 2013 and will exit their roles starting this month.
