Ages 3-17

Flag football has skyrocketed in popularity among youth in the U.S. In 2023, there were over 1.6 million American youth players, including more than 500,000 girls. Flag football will become an Olympic sport for both men and women by 2028! When your child plays flag football at the Y, they’ll focus on the in-game basics like teamwork and making friends.

Our Youth Flag Football league allows boys and girls the opportunity to learn new skills, play on a team and have fun! Involvement is fundamental to the game and every child attending practice will play half of every game. The YMCA Youth Sports philosophy is unique. We emphasize good sportsmanship, teamwork, values, and fellowship with others, in addition to teaching fundamental skills.

Flag Football Programs

Participation in our Recreational Leagues and Sports Zone is included with Household Memberships*!

Our Sports Zone, free for members, is designed for children aged 2 to 7 years old and introduces them to sports through engaging recreational games. The program focuses on developing essential motor skills, coordination, and teamwork, all while fostering a love for physical activity. Children will take part in age-appropriate activities that promote learning and enjoyment, helping to build confidence and social skills in a safe and supportive environment. Each session provides a fun opportunity to explore a variety of sports through playful interaction. Join us every Saturday for 30 minutes for this exciting program!
Micro Sports is tailored for children ages 3 to 4 who are new to sports. This program introduces basic skills through engaging drills, games, and team activities. Our goal is to build confidence and improve motor skills. Micro Sports operates year-round in various sports, with each season lasting 8 weeks. Parent participation is required.
Starter Flag Football is an excellent way to introduce kids to soccer through an eight-week 3 vs. 3 season. Each week includes a 30-minute practice, followed by a 20-minute game, and a 10-minute character development activity. The program is led by trained staff and follows a structured curriculum. Participants will receive a t-shirt.
Recreational Flag Football focuses on teaching the fundamentals of the game, developing skills, and promoting good sportsmanship. Volunteer coaches lead engaging drills and game-like scrimmages in a safe and supportive environment. This league offers a great way for your child to improve their skills with one practice and one game each week. The 8-week program is available for boys and girls aged 7 to 14, with possible age group combinations based on registration. The program is run by volunteer coaches. Jerseys can be ordered on our website using a promotional code provided upon registration, and they will be shipped to your address within 1 to 2 business days.

Requirements: Mouth guards are required for all age groups. Cleats are permitted (no metal spikes). Tennis shoes are acceptable. Jewelry is not allowed to be worn during YMCA Youth Sports. This includes earrings (earrings cannot be taped).

YMCA Specialty Camps provide youth with exciting opportunities to learn new skills, stay active, and build confidence while making new friends. Our camps are led by experienced staff and dedicated volunteers, ensuring a memorable experience for every participant. Available as half-day sessions in the morning or afternoon, Specialty Camps are offered during winter holidays, spring break, and the summer season.

  • Team Selection: Coaches will select players through our annual tryout process. Players who make the team will be notified via email, and team selections will also be posted on our Facebook page.
  • Playing Time: This program is not a pay-to-play league. While all players will receive the same level of instruction, playing time and line-ups are determined by the coach.
  • Practices: Practices will start in late November, with each Local Club team practicing once a week for 2 hours, typically on Sunday afternoons or evenings, at Dye Clay or Barco-Newton YMCA.
  • Season Tournaments: Teams will compete in five one-day tournaments, running from January through April. The tournament schedule will be shared by club coaches once finalized.
