Familiar and First-Time Faces Join First Coast YMCA Metro Board of Directors

Four new members to begin three-year term October 1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – September 30, 2023 – The First Coast YMCA is proud to announce four new members to its Metropolitan Board of Directors, whose three-year terms will begin on Sunday, October 1. The new members will replace outgoing board members Sarah Bermudez, Shelly Boynton, Kevin Holzendorf, and Dr. Floyd Willis, all of whom have rotated off the board.

“Our Board of Directors are a guiding force in how the First Coast YMCA serves the ongoing and ever-changing needs of our community,” said First Coast YMCA CEO and President Eric Mann. “We’re proud of the diverse leadership experience that these men and women possess as we enter into another season of growth and development.”

Among the new board members is Peggy Bryan, who previously served on the Metro Board for more than 16 years and was the First Coast YMCA’s first woman board chair. After rotating off the board in 2021, Bryan was re-elected this year. Her leadership experience is extensive, as she’s served in a Vice President or President role for several organizations, including the Reinhold Corporation, Shadowlawn Nursery, PACE Jacksonville, Leadership Jacksonville, and Youth Leadership Jacksonville.

Joining Bryan will be Diana Sorfleet, who currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for CSX. Sorfleet’s human resources experience spans more than 30 years and she’s been recognized nationally for her efforts in diversity. Sorfleet has been with Jacksonville-based CSX since 2011 and has earned two master’s degrees, including an MBA from Northwestern University.

Mike Biagini will also be joining the metro board. Biagini began his career in construction nearly three decades ago and is now vice president and partner of Jacksonville-based Scherer Construction. No stranger to the First Coast, Biagini has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida and a master’s in business administration from the University of Florida.

The final new member of the metro board is Lauren Baker, who served as Vice President for MBNA, America Bank, and Bank of America. She’s been on MOCA Jacksonville’s Board of Trustees since 2020 and volunteers for both the PVPV Elementary School PTO Board and the Christ Episcopal Preschool Board. Her and her husband Ted live in Ponte Vedra Beach, where they raise their four children.

Metropolitan Board officers for the 2023-2024 year include Darnell Smith, Chair; Gary Norcross, Vice Chair; Pam Smith, Treasurer; and Eric Mann, Secretary.
