Brown Family YMCA Expansion

At the Y, we share a purpose to strengthen community. Every day, we are transforming lives by empowering young people, improving health and well-being and inspiring action. The Ponte Vedra Beach YMCA has been improving the health of its community for more than 20 years. The 43,000 square-foot branch in Ponte Vedra Beach opened in 1999 and serves 2,300 family and senior member units averaging over 16,000 visits per month.

To continue the Y’s impactful work for generations to come, it is important to provide to the community a facility that meets today’s needs. An enhanced YMCA in Ponte Vedra Beach will create open environments allowing members to engage in health and wellness programs and will position our organization to respond to future community opportunities and challenges.

MAKING STRIDES TOWARD A BRIGHTER FUTURE
With the help of generous donors, we are committed to raising $5 million so that we can continue to help our neighbors live healthier in spirit, mind and body. A generous naming gift from the Brown Family Foundation kicks off a new Capital Campaign for a multimillion dollar expansion and renovation project at the Ponte Vedra Beach YMCA location. Here’s what’s coming:

  • New pickleball courts with gazebo
  • Expanded KidZone with new outdoor playground
  • New family locker rooms
  • Exterior façade renovations
  • Pool Resurfacing with renovated locker rooms
  • Overall facility update

Why It Matters
By investing in our building, we are investing in more opportunities to develop the potential of children and teens, give our active older adults a place to belong and connect, provide families with quality time together and establish ourselves as a total wellness resource in an ever-evolving health and fitness landscape.

The Y is committed to building a healthier, stronger First Coast overall. Making improvements to Ys in communities such as Ponte Vedra Beach enables us to expand our programs and services in under resourced communities while also strengthening the stability of all our operations across Northeast Florida.

Brown Family Foundation + YMCA
Our goal with the Stronger For Our Community campaign and the Brown Family YMCA is for this Y to grow its reach and impact on the community by having the best facilities, programs and resources. We see this happening through:

  • Expanding and upgrading the facility to provide more space with state of the art equipment
  • Offering best-in-class programs that address a wider range of health and performance goals
  • Serving the health and wellness needs of more families in the community
  • Providing children a safe and fun place to be active and pursue their health and education interests

We are excited to join our community in helping this Y become a leading facility in its ability to provide access to and serve the needs of families.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
This is your opportunity to provide support for a revitalized YMCA in Ponte Vedra Beach. Investing in the project will bring the Y’s mission of strengthening communities to life. The improvements will address facility needs and position us to respond to growth and future community challenges and opportunities. Gifts of any amount will make a difference and help change lives. A variety of naming opportunities are available. To make a contribution to this campaign, donate online or contact VP of Operations Charlie Chacos at cchacos@fcymca.org or 904.543.9622.

Facility Upgrades
Renovating our basketball gymnasium, locker rooms and bathrooms, group exercise and cycle studios will bring our facility up to today’s standards. General upgrades include installing new floor, painting walls, addressing lighting issues and more. Family and accessible locker rooms will ensure that the Y is truly welcome to all.

KidZone
An upgraded KidZone and new outdoor playground will help us provide the highest quality and safest possible care for some of the most treasured members of our families. Our children are the cornerstone of everything we do and giving them a safe space to learn, grow and thrive is essential for them to develop their full potential.

Aquatics Center
The aquatics center pool is not only the setting for creating summer memories, its also where children learn the life-saving skill of swimming, where adaptive wellness participants rebuild their strength, where athletes strive to be their best, and where active older adults improve their health with low-impact exercise.

Sports Recovery
With high school, collegiate and competitive athletes living in the area, they are looking for a place to not only build and sustain muscle, but also a place to recover. The Sports Recovery area will include cryotherapy, an upgraded sauna room, ice bath rand more.

Multi-Generational Space
The future leaders of Northeast Florida walk through the Y in Ponte Vedra Beach every day. We believe in the potential of our youth and understand that, with a little nurturing, our teens can grow into tomorrow’s leaders. By giving them a place to call their own, they’ll gain a sense of pride and ownership, and grow the confidence they need to become responsible, diligent adults that contribute to our community in an impactful way. Our teens need a facility that fits their generation. A new space will allow us to expand our programming and help kids find their place in the world.

It will also serve as a multi-generational gathering space for our active older adults and seniors. Social isolation affects nearly 1 in 5 older adults. To combat this, we will be able to hold events, specialized classes and a social setting for them to gather. The greatest wealth is health – physical, spiritual and mental.

The total amount of the Capital Campaign is $5.3 million.
Yes, thanks to a generous gift from the Brown Family Foundation, effective October 24, 2022, the Y is now named the Brown Family YMCA.
An estimated completion date has not been finalized but the work will be done in phases beginning in November.
To ensure our Y is serving today’s generation with an eye to the next, we need purposefully designed spaces to offer the types of programs and services children and adults need. Our facility is a tool that helps us deliver on our mission. With limited space, an aging infrastructure, and barriers to access, we know we must do more.
The Y is committed to building a healthier, stronger First Coast for all. We are always looking for opportunities to upgrade our facilities to better serve the needs of our neighbors. Expanding Ys in growing communities, including the Brown Family YMCA in Ponte Vedra Beach and the Winston Family YMCA in Riverside, allows us to serve more people which strengthens the stability of our overall operations so we can provide greater access to Y programs and services to those living in under-resourced communities.
