About DayStar
Jo and Tony Knott came to the Y with the vision for DayStar more than 20 years ago. Their daughter Rhonda, who has a disability, had just graduated high school. But now as an adult, she had no safe place to go. They dreamed of a place where Rhonda and others could thrive – a place where they would receive therapy and also participate in social and recreational activities. So the Knotts met with YMCA leaders and volunteers in Clay County and soon after inspired others in the community to help them raise enough money to open Daystar at the Dye Clay Family YMCA in 2000. Seven years later, a second DayStar opened at the Barco-Newton Family YMCA in Fleming Island.
