Ages 3-17

Hit the hardwood with the folks who invented the game – the Y! The Youth Basketball program is open to kids starting at age 3, with programs and leagues running year-round. Every child will participate in every game and receive equal playing time, regardless of skill level.

Y Youth Sports encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others. Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators, by contributing their time as volunteer coaches – as well as being their kid’s greatest fan.

Basketball Programs

Participation in our Recreational Leagues and Sports Zone is included with Household Memberships*!

Our Sports Zone, free for members, is designed for children aged 2 to 7 years old and introduces them to sports through engaging recreational games. The program focuses on developing essential motor skills, coordination, and teamwork, all while fostering a love for physical activity. Children will take part in age-appropriate activities that promote learning and enjoyment, helping to build confidence and social skills in a safe and supportive environment. Each session provides a fun opportunity to explore a variety of sports through playful interaction. Join us every Saturday for 30 minutes for this exciting program!
Micro Sports is tailored for children ages 3 to 4 who are new to sports. This program introduces basic skills through engaging drills, games, and team activities. Our goal is to build confidence and improve motor skills. Micro Sports operates year-round in various sports, with each season lasting 8 weeks. Parent participation is required.
Starter Basketball is an excellent way to introduce kids to the sport through an eight-week 3 vs. 3 season. Each week includes a 30-minute practice, followed by a 20-minute game, and a 10-minute character development activity. The program is led by trained staff and follows a structured curriculum. Participants will receive a t-shirt.
Recreational basketball is designed to teach the fundamentals of the game, enhance skills, and promote good sportsmanship. Volunteer coaches guide players through engaging drills and game-like scrimmages in a supportive and safe environment. This league offers a fantastic opportunity for your child to develop their skills with one practice and one game each week. The 8-week program is available for boys and girls ages 7 to 17, with potential age group combinations based on registration. The program is run by volunteer coaches. Jerseys can be ordered on our website using a promotional code provided upon registration, and they will be shipped to your address within 1 to 2 business days.

Requirements: Basketball shoes are recommended. Tennis shoes are required. Jewelry is not allowed to be worn during YMCA Youth Sports. This includes earrings (earrings cannot be taped).

Take your game to the next level with the YMCA Basketball Academy’s instructor-led Competitive Basketball League. Our Academy Competitive League is designed to assist players with the evolution of their individual skill level while enhancing their level of play in a focused, competitive and structured environment.

Emphasis is on skill development, team play and volleyball IQ enhancement. Sportsmanship, skill progression and teamwork are emphasized. Everyone plays (automatic sub rotation)!

Academy players receive 7 games, a single elimination tourney, a weekly one-hour instructor-led practice training session (entire age divisions train together), instructor coach, game jersey, and tourney champ t-shirts for tourney winners.

Association Framework; 5 tournaments – typically weekends. Learn more about Jr Pros Basketball HERE.
Our Basketball Skills & Drills program is designed to prepare children for league play and help them build on the fundamentals of the sport while refining their techniques. It’s an excellent opportunity for your child to get ready for school tryouts, other national youth sports, or to address specific skill areas before the next season. Led by skilled staff, participants engage in drills and games that develop essential skills for the sport. In this program, children enhance their abilities, make new friends, and have fun. With smaller groups, each child receives more individualized attention and personalized skill development. Whether focusing on agility, reaction time, body coordination, aim, or other sports skills. This program ensures measurable improvement.
YMCA Specialty Camps provide youth with exciting opportunities to learn new skills, stay active, and build confidence while making new friends. Our camps are led by experienced staff and dedicated volunteers, ensuring a memorable experience for every participant. Available as half-day sessions in the morning or afternoon, Specialty Camps are offered during winter holidays, spring break, and the summer season.

  • Team Selection: Coaches will select players through our annual tryout process. Players who make the team will be notified via email, and team selections will also be posted on our Facebook page.
  • Playing Time: This program is not a pay-to-play league. While all players will receive the same level of instruction, playing time and line-ups are determined by the coach.
  • Practices: Practices will start in late November, with each Local Club team practicing once a week for 2 hours, typically on Sunday afternoons or evenings, at Dye Clay or Barco-Newton YMCA.
  • Season Tournaments: Teams will compete in five one-day tournaments, running from January through April. The tournament schedule will be shared by club coaches once finalized.
