Ages 3-17
Hit the hardwood with the folks who invented the game – the Y! The Youth Basketball program is open to kids starting at age 3, with programs and leagues running year-round. Every child will participate in every game and receive equal playing time, regardless of skill level.
Y Youth Sports encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others. Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators, by contributing their time as volunteer coaches – as well as being their kid’s greatest fan.
🚨 New Safety Feature at the Y! 🚨
Starting September 1, all parents, guardians, and spectators who are not YMCA members will need a FREE Spectator Guest Membership to attend youth sports practices, games, and matches.
It’s quick, simple, and helps us keep every child and family safe. ✅

Basketball Programs
Participation in our Recreational Leagues and Sports Zone is included with Household Memberships*!
Requirements: Basketball shoes are recommended. Tennis shoes are required. Jewelry is not allowed to be worn during YMCA Youth Sports. This includes earrings (earrings cannot be taped).
Emphasis is on skill development, team play and basketball IQ enhancement. Sportsmanship, skill progression and teamwork are emphasized. Everyone plays (automatic sub rotation)!
Academy players receive 7 games, a single elimination tourney, a weekly one-hour instructor-led practice training session (entire age divisions train together), instructor coach, game jersey, and tourney champ t-shirts for tourney winners.
- Team Selection: Coaches will select players through our annual tryout process. Players who make the team will be notified via email, and team selections will also be posted on our Facebook page.
- Playing Time: This program is not a pay-to-play league. While all players will receive the same level of instruction, playing time and line-ups are determined by the coach.
- Practices: Practices will start in late November, with each Local Club team practicing once a week for 2 hours, typically on Sunday afternoons or evenings, at Dye Clay or Barco-Newton YMCA.
- Season Tournaments: Teams will compete in five one-day tournaments, running from January through April. The tournament schedule will be shared by club coaches once finalized.
