All across our First Coast YMCA branches, you will see varied offerings of freestyle classes that are low-impact on the joints…but high-impact in their benefits! Opportunities abound that allow our members to enjoy everything from stretching and balance-focused classes, to strength-based and cardio classes. Our designated SilverSneakers classes and AOA classes are terrific low-impact options. Check your branch schedule – or your FCYMCA app – to find a class that meets your needs!

Tips and Preparation
For the best possible experience, new class participants are encouraged to arrive to class early to meet the instructor and have time to gather and set up equipment, if needed for the class being attended. No experience is necessary!
- The Y provides any needed equipment for these classes. Please bring your own workout mat, if needed for class. We suggest arriving early to set up equipment, if your class requires it.
- Come to class dressed ready to move your body. Wear comfortable, functional workout clothing made of breathable material to allow air flow.
- Wear proper athletic shoes with a comfortable fit. Open-toed and/or open-backed shoes, slides, and Crocs will not be permitted. Cross-training shoes designed for lateral movement are highly recommended.
- If class includes them, start with light weights and resistance, focusing on proper technique and breath. Utilize options as needed!
- Please bring water and a sweat towel.
*Not all classes are offered at all locations. Check your Y’s schedule for availability and additional class variety.
