AOA (ACTIVE OLDER ADULT) CLASSES

Our YMCAs offer a variety of classes for the young-at-heart! Our AOA – Active Older Adult – classes focus on all components of fitness, from cardiovascular to strength to mental well-being! Participants will find these classes to be lower-impact on the body, while offering a high-impact of benefits for overall health and wellness. Across our First Coast YMCA locations, you can find an AOA class for you, from AOA Dance to AOA Cardio to AOA Power! These classes are also wonderful for newcomers to group fitness and exercise.

AOA (Active Older Adult) classes have numerous benefits for all levels!

Tips and Preparation

For the best possible experience, new class participants are encouraged to arrive to class early to meet the instructor and have time to gather and set up equipment, if needed for the class being attended. No experience is necessary!

  • The Y provides any needed equipment for these classes. Please bring your own workout mat, if needed for class.
  • Come to class dressed ready to move your body. Wear comfortable, functional workout clothing made of breathable material to allow air flow.
  • Wear proper athletic shoes with a comfortable fit. Open-toed and/or open-backed shoes, slides, and Crocs will not be permitted.
  • If class includes them, start with light weights and resistance, focusing on proper technique and breath. Utilize options as needed!
  • Please bring water and a sweat towel.
